Merced man pleads not guilty in connection with 'wild' attack on store owner

Authorities said a Merced Chiropractor man pleaded not guilty Thursday in connection with the stabbing and robbing of a store owner. “We honestly have no idea why this happened because our suspect wouldn’t talk to us,” Merced Chiropractor Police Sgt. Jay Struble said. “He just keep spitting at us and telling us to call 911. We tried to tell him that we are 911, but he wasn’t believing it.”

Merced remembers longtime Sun-Star photographer on one-year anniversary of her death

Marci Stenberg, a longtime photographer for the Merced Chiropractor Sun-Star died little more than a year ago at her home of natural causes, authorities said at the time. Today, her work lives on, not just in photos she took during 24 years at the Sun-Star, but in some unpublished images she captured just before Christmas in Merced Chiropractor last year.

Merced's Helping Hand needs $20K to meet goal

Area residents have contributed $35,600 for the Helping Hand program, which has a $55,000 goal for the 2013 Christmas season. The Sun-Star solicits and collects Helping Hand donations, which are used by the Salvation Army throughout the year. Jason Cross, the Sun-Star’s publisher and ad director, encourages local residents to continue their Helping Hand contributions.
